Ktm Adventure 990

The Ktm Adventure 990 has a top speed of 210 km/h, produces 114 hp and weighs 229 kg. Motoryk rates it 8.2/10.

⚙️

Watch the Cam Chain

The 990 Adventure is known for cam chain tensioner wear, especially on higher-mileage bikes. Always check service history and listen for rattling on cold starts before buying.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The 990 holds its value exceptionally well due to its cult following and discontinued status. A well-maintained example often sells for close to its original purchase price even years later.

🏍️

True Dual-Purpose DNA

Unlike many 'adventure' bikes, the 990 was genuinely capable off-road thanks to its lightweight LC8 V-twin engine and WP suspension, making it a rare bike that excels both on dirt and long-distance touring.

8.4/10

8.2/10
Idéal pour
Experienced riders wanting raw, unfiltered adventure touring

"A flawed masterpiece that absolutely rewards diligent pre-purchase inspection."

$5,500-$9,500 used

The 990 Adventure is one of those bikes that rewards experienced riders while genuinely punishing the unprepared. That LC8 V-twin is an absolute gem — torquey, characterful, and sounds properly angry when you crack the throttle. It'll pull hard from tickover and keep pulling until you're doing speeds you probably shouldn't mention. Pre-2013 models especially carry that raw, unfiltered KTM DNA that newer bikes have largely sanitized away. Here's the honest bit though — these things demand maintenance respect. The valve clearances need checking religiously, the throttle bodies require balancing, and neglected examples will drain your wallet fast. Always ask for service history. No records means walk away, simple as that. Check the subframe for cracks around the rear luggage mounts, inspect the WP suspension for leaks, and wiggle the steering head bearing. Previous owner abuse shows up quickly on these. Get a good one with solid history and you've arguably bought the last truly analog adventure bike worth owning. They're genuinely brilliant when properly sorted.
