Yamaha Xt660z Tenere
The Yamaha XT660Z Ténéré was introduced in 2008 as a modern revival of the legendary Ténéré name, inspired by the iconic XT600Z Ténéré of the 1980s that dominated the Paris-Dakar Rally. Built on the proven XT660R platform, it added a larger 23-litre fuel tank, improved wind protection, and adventure-touring ergonomics to appeal to long-distance dual-sport riders. It remained in production until around 2016-2017, earning a strong reputation for reliability, simplicity, and genuine off-road capability in a mid-sized adventure segment.

What Buyers Should Know
Watch the Throttle Bodies
The XT660Z is known for throttle body synchronization issues that can cause rough idling and hesitation. Regular sync checks every 10,000km keep this problem in check and are relatively cheap to fix.
Strong Resale Value
The Ténéré holds its value exceptionally well due to its cult following and proven adventure-touring reputation. A well-maintained example loses value slowly compared to most mid-size adventure bikes.
Battle-Tested Engine
The 660cc single-cylinder engine is derived from Yamaha's legendary XT660 lineage, known for surviving extreme conditions on multiple world record overland journeys. With basic maintenance it commonly exceeds 100,000km without major rebuilds.
