Yamaha Mt-03

The Yamaha Mt-03 has a top speed of 160 km/h (est. — note: manufacturer does not officially publish top speed), produces 42 hp and weighs 168 kg. Motoryk rates it 8.5/10.

🔧

Rock-Solid Reliability

The MT-03 shares its 321cc parallel-twin engine with the YZF-R3, a motor known for exceptional durability with minimal reported failures. Regular oil changes every 3,000-4,000 miles are virtually all it needs to run indefinitely.

⚠️

Watch the Coolant Hoses

A known issue on older MT-03 models is coolant hose cracking or loosening, which can cause overheating if ignored. Inspect all hoses carefully on used bikes, especially models with over 10,000 miles.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The MT-03 holds its value exceptionally well compared to other entry-level bikes, often retaining 70-80% of its value after two years. Its popularity as a beginner and commuter bike keeps used demand consistently high.

7.4/10

8.5/10
Lo mejor para
Urban commuters and returning riders wanting fun

"The smartest used buy under four grand, full stop."

$3,500-$5,500 used

The MT-03 is one of those bikes that makes you look stupid for not buying one sooner. Yamaha's 321cc parallel-twin punches well above its displacement — smooth, linear power delivery that never catches you out, with enough grunt to feel genuinely fun on B-roads without terrifying you on the highway. The chassis is properly sorted too, light and flickable in a way that bigger bikes simply can't replicate in tight urban traffic. Buying used, check the front forks carefully — early examples (2016-2018) can weep seals if the previous owner was enthusiastic over rough tarmac. Inspect the chain and sprockets hard, because learner owners often neglect them criminally. The bodywork scratches easily, so assume any used example has had at least one lowside unless the fairings are immaculate. Software gremlins on the dash are rare but worth knowing about. Honestly? For commuting or weekend scratching, this thing is nearly perfect. It's the bike that makes experienced riders forget horsepower exists.
