Ktm Supermoto 990

The Ktm Supermoto 990 has a top speed of 210 km/h, produces 113 hp and weighs 198 kg. Motoryk rates it 7.8/10.

⚙️

LC8 Engine Quirks

The 999cc LC8 V-twin is a powerhouse but known for running hot in slow traffic — check for proper cooling system maintenance and ensure the coolant has been regularly changed. Overheating can accelerate head gasket wear.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The 990 SMT holds its value well due to its cult following and limited production run, which ended in 2013. A well-maintained example commands a premium, making it a solid used buy if priced fairly.

🔩

Watch the Throttle Bodies

Throttle body synchronization is a common maintenance item that's often neglected, causing rough idle and poor low-speed fueling. Always ask for service history and budget for a throttle body sync if buying used.

2009–2013 Gen 2

Évaluation d'un acheteur d'occasion

7.8/10
Idéal pour
Experienced riders wanting thrilling, unique dual-purpose performance

"Brilliant, characterful machine that demands a disciplined pre-purchase inspection."

$5,500-$9,500 used

The 990 SMT is genuinely one of the most entertaining motorcycles ever bolted together, and that LC8 V-twin sounds absolutely savage at full chat. It'll rip your arms off if you're not paying attention, and the supermoto geometry makes it feel telepathic through tight corners. This thing was built when KTM still had a reputation for lunatic engineering decisions, which is both the appeal and the problem. Here's the honest bit: these bikes eat money. Budget for a fresh set of throttle bodies, check the frame for cracks around the steering head, and pray the previous owner serviced the valve clearances. Many didn't. The fuel pump is a known weak point, and the chain and sprockets on used examples are often embarrassingly worn. Expect to spend £800-1,200 sorting one out properly before you trust it on a long run. Buy the best example you can find, get a full service history, and resist anything suspiciously cheap. When it's sorted, nothing at this price point feels this alive.
