Ktm Super Duke 990

The Ktm Super Duke 990 has a top speed of 230 km/h, produces 118 hp and weighs 189 kg. Motoryk rates it 8.5/10.

⚙️

LC8 Engine Quirks

The 999cc LC8 V-twin is a powerful but maintenance-intensive motor — valve clearances should be checked every 15,000 km and are often neglected by previous owners. Always verify service history before buying.

Watch the Throttle Bodies

A known issue on the 990 Super Duke is throttle body synchronization going out of tune, causing rough idle and uneven power delivery. It's a cheap fix but commonly overlooked, so budget for a tune-up.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The 990 Super Duke holds its value surprisingly well due to its cult following and reputation as a raw, engaging naked bike. Well-maintained examples remain in demand even 10+ years after production ended.

8.7/10

Experienced riders wanting raw, unfiltered naked performance

"A flawed, thrilling machine that rewards the diligent buyer handsomely."

$4,500-$8,500 used

The 990 Super Duke is the motorcycle that either converts you or terrifies you within the first mile. That LC8 V-twin is an absolute animal — raw, torquey, and completely unfiltered in a way modern bikes simply aren't anymore. KTM built something genuinely special here, and the used market knows it. Prices have actually crept back up as people realize what they had. Buy one right and it'll reward you endlessly. Buy one wrong and you're funding someone else's neglect. These bikes attracted riders who rode hard and occasionally maintained soft. Check the frame for stress cracks around the headstock, inspect the WP suspension for leaks, and verify the throttle bodies have been synced recently. The subframe bolts love to work loose. Coolant hoses crack with age. None of it is catastrophic if you know going in. Above all, get a pre-purchase inspection. A good one costs $150 and could save you $2,000. The 990 is worth owning — just own a healthy one.
