"Koreanischer Ehrgeiz, japanischer Lack fehlt noch."

Der GT650R sah aus wie das Teil, das neben einem R6 geparkt war, und für das Geld im Jahr 2006 kam ihm nichts am Rohdatenblatt gleich — ein echter, flüssigkeitsgekühlter 647-cm3-V-Twin für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene fühlte sich wie ein Diebstahl an. Aber wenn man damit lebte, kamen die Risse schnell zum Vorschein: Die Mikuni-Vergaser mussten an kalten Vormittagen ständig nachgespült werden, innerhalb eines Jahres sprudelte die Farbe an den Tanknähten, und die Federung war so unterfedert, dass sie in der Kurvenmitte auf allem anderen als glasglatten Asphalt vage wurde. Ich legte 18.000 km auf meine Maschine und fühlte mich nie wirklich sicher, sie in eine schnelle Kehrmaschine umzukippen, aber der drehmomentstarke V-Twin-Pulp ab 4.000 U/min war auf offener Straße wirklich zufriedenstellend und ließ mich trotz der Frustrationen immer wieder zurückkommen.

The parallel-twin pulls cleanly from low revs, the riding position is aggressive without being punishing, and the thing actually looks the part. For the money — usually well under two grand used — it's hard to argue with the sheer volume of motorcycle you're getting. Here's the honest part though: reliability is a lottery. Early models (pre-2010 especially) had well-documented carburetor issues, electrical gremlins, and parts that felt like they were specced on a budget. Because they were. Find one with a documented service history and you'll probably be fine. Find one that's been neglected and you're signing up for a project bike that Korean parts availability will make miserable. Always check the regulator/rectifier — it's the first thing to cook itself. For a new rider who wants sportbike looks without sportbike insurance costs, the GT650R makes sense. Just buy the right example.
