Ktm Adventure 990 Smt Review
"Buy a good one and you'll never want to sell it."
Used Buyer Review
The 990 SMT is one of KTM's most underrated machines — a proper supermoto-meets-tourer that genuinely does both jobs well. That LC8 V-twin is an absolute riot, pulling hard from low revs and making a sound that'll have you grinning through your helmet on every back road. Chassis feels alive and responsive without being twitchy, and the upright riding position works surprisingly well at motorway speeds too. It's genuinely versatile in a way most bikes only pretend to be. But here's the honest talk: these things need maintenance and they'll tell you when they haven't had it. Check the valve clearances history religiously — skipped services are a real problem on used examples. Throttle bodies need balancing periodically, and the original suspension is soft for heavier riders. Budget for a full service immediately regardless of what the seller claims. Parts are available but not cheap, and dealer knowledge varies wildly. Find a well-documented example with fresh consumables and you've got something genuinely special. Neglected ones are money pits.
