Yamaha's parallel twin pumps out a genuinely usable 86bhp with a fat midrange that makes motorway overtakes effortless. It's not exciting in the way a sportsbike is exciting, but it's deeply, satisfyingly competent — the kind of bike that makes you look good without trying hard. The upright riding position means you can honestly tour on it, and that wide handlebar gives you real leverage in the corners. On used examples, check the final drive chain and sprockets — neglected ones get sloppy and expensive fast. Inspect the throttle bodies for poor idle issues, common on bikes that've sat unused. Forks can weep on higher-mileage bikes, so look for oil residue on the lowers. Cosmetically these age well but tank scratches from clumsy owners are everywhere.
