Proven Engine Reliability

The 1199cc parallel-twin engine is widely regarded as one of the most durable adventure bike motors available, with many owners reporting 100,000+ km with minimal issues when properly maintained.

⚠️

Watch the Final Drive

The shaft drive is generally low-maintenance, but inspect for oil leaks around the rear drive housing and listen for clunking — worn universal joints are a known issue on higher-mileage examples.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The Super Ténéré holds its value exceptionally well compared to competitors, largely due to its reputation for reliability and the loyal Yamaha adventure touring community keeping demand steady.

Long-distance tourers wanting shaft-drive adventure capability

"A seriously underrated adventure tourer that deserves far more recognition."

$6,500-$11,000 used

The Super Ténéré is a proper adventure bike from an era before every manufacturer lost their minds chasing GS sales. The 1199cc parallel twin pulls hard from low revs, the chassis is confidence-inspiring on gravel, and the optional electronic suspension on later models genuinely works. Buy one with the ESA if you can find it — it transforms the bike on mixed terrain runs. That said, go in with eyes open. These things drink fuel at a rate that'll embarrass you, the stock seat is an instrument of torture past 200 miles, and the infotainment is prehistoric by modern standards. Check the bevel drive carefully — it's not a common failure point but it's expensive when it goes wrong. Shaft final drive overall though is a big tick for touring use. For the money, you're getting a serious, underrated machine that bigger adventure riders especially appreciate. It never got the recognition it deserved. Low mileage examples under 25,000 miles represent genuinely strong value right now.
