Vespa Gts 250

The Vespa Gts 250 has a top speed of 115 km/h, produces 22 hp and weighs 156 kg. Motoryk rates it 7.8/10.

The Vespa GTS 250 was introduced in 2005 as a modern evolution of the classic Vespa scooter, featuring a fuel-injected 244cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine — a significant upgrade over earlier two-stroke models. It was notable for being one of the first large-displacement Vespa scooters to meet Euro 3 emissions standards while retaining the iconic retro styling the brand is famous for. The GTS 250 was eventually succeeded by the GTS 300 around 2008-2009, but it established the GTS line as Vespa's flagship premium urban scooter.

What Buyers Should Know

⚙️

Watch the CVT Belt

The continuously variable transmission belt is a known wear item that should be inspected every 8,000–10,000 miles. Neglected belts can snap unexpectedly, leaving you stranded and causing secondary damage.

💰

Strong Resale Value

Vespas hold their value exceptionally well compared to most scooters, with used GTS 250 models often selling at 60–75% of original MSRP even after several years. The iconic brand name drives consistent demand in urban markets.

🔧

Unique Unitized Steel Body

Unlike most scooters with plastic bodywork, the GTS 250 features an all-steel monocoque frame and body, making it more durable in minor impacts but also more expensive to repair if panels are dented or scratched.

8.2/10

"The scooter that made scooters worth taking seriously."

I put about 8,000 km on a 2007 GTS 250 and it genuinely changed how I thought about small-displacement urban riding — the fuel injection starts crisp every morning, the power delivery is smooth enough to feel confident filtering traffic, and that steel monocoque chassis telegraphs the road without beating you up. The 22 horses are enough to sit comfortably at 100 km/h on mixed roads, though highways above 110 km/h turn the whole thing into a vibrating slog against any headwind. Weight is the honest problem nobody talks about: 156 kg is heavy for what it is, and low-speed parking lot maneuvers remind you of that every single time. Still, the optional ABS, the under-seat storage that fits a full-face helmet, and build quality that shames most Japanese competitors justify every euro of the premium price.

Pros

+Fuel injection: seamless cold starts always
+Chassis feel genuinely confidence-inspiring
+Build quality noticeably above segment average
+Under-seat storage fits full-face helmet
+Optional ABS rare at this price point

Cons

156 kg punishes low-speed maneuvering
Highway cruising above 110 km/h exhausting
Premium dealer costs sting at service time
Best for: Urban commuters valuing style and substance Skip if: You regularly ride long open highways
2009–2013 Gen 2

Used Buyer Review

7.8/10
Best for
Urban commuters wanting Italian style and reliability

"A premium used scooter that rewards buyers who inspect carefully."

$2,500-$5,500 used

The GTS 250 is genuinely one of the better-built scooters you'll find used, but you need to know what you're walking into. The ie (fuel-injected) versions from 2008 onward are noticeably smoother than the carbed early models — hunt for those. Mechanically, the single-cylinder four-stroke is tough as old boots. What kills these on the used market is neglect: check the variator rollers, rear brake shoes (they wear invisibly), and look hard at the frame underbelly for crash damage that's been touched up with rattle can.
