The TL1000S is genuinely one of the most characterful bikes of the late 90s, and that 996cc V-twin sounds absolutely savage when it's on song. Suzuki's rotary damper rear suspension was controversial then and remains a headache now — replacement units are increasingly hard to find, and worn examples will have you questioning your life choices mid-corner. Check that damper is either functional or has been replaced with a conventional shock before you hand over any money. Mechanically these things are surprisingly tough if maintained, but they've mostly been owned by people who bought them cheap and treated them accordingly. Look for crash damage — the fairing tabs crack, the frame rails dent, and the exhaust collector cracks around the welds. Heat management is real; your right leg will cook in traffic.
