Suzuki Tl1000r

The Suzuki Tl1000r has a top speed of 265 km/h, produces 135 hp and weighs 206 kg. Motoryk rates it 7.5/10.

⚠️

Steering Damper Required

The TL1000R was notorious for high-speed tank-slappers due to its rotary damper rear suspension design. Suzuki issued a recall and fitted a steering damper — always verify this modification is present before buying.

🔧

Watch for Regulator Failures

The voltage regulator/rectifier is a known weak point and can fail, leading to battery drain or electrical damage. Budget for a replacement unit or verify it has already been upgraded.

💰

Affordable Collector Appeal

The TL1000R is gaining cult status among 90s sportbike enthusiasts, keeping values relatively stable for well-maintained examples. Its rarity compared to the TL1000S makes clean survivors increasingly desirable.

Pluspunten

+Ongeëvenaard karakter en koppel van de V-twin
+Topvermogen is echt schokkend
+Agressieve, doelgerichte rijpositie
+Het remmen voelt sterk en progressief aan

Nadelen

Roterende demper achter is berucht

"A flawed masterpiece that demands respect and proper maintenance."

$3,500-$7,500 used

The TL1000R is one of those bikes that rewards the right rider spectacularly while punishing the wrong one mercilessly. That 996cc V-twin genuinely sounds like God clearing his throat, and the power delivery is savage in the best possible way. Suzuki's rotary damper rear suspension was controversial for good reason — it's quirky, and worn examples will have you questioning your life choices mid-corner. Always check that rear end carefully before handing over cash. Buy one with a full service history and verify the throttle bodies are balanced — an out-of-sync TL is a miserable thing to ride. The fairing plastics are unobtanium now, so any cracks or missing pieces stay that way forever. Heat management is genuinely brutal in traffic; this is not a commuter bike by any stretch. Find a clean, low-mileage example and you've got something truly special — a raw, analog sportbike that modern bikes simply can't replicate.
