It's charming, dead simple mechanically, and turns more heads than anything twice the price. For urban commuting and weekend blasts on B-roads, it genuinely delivers that old-school thumper experience without the old-school reliability nightmares — mostly. The post-2021 J-platform bikes are dramatically better than earlier units, so stick to those if you can. Used examples need careful inspection around the electrics — indicators and switches are a weak point. Check for oil seepage around the head gasket and inspect the frame welds on higher-mileage bikes. The good news is parts are cheap and any decent indie mechanic can fix one blindfolded. Fuel injection arrived in 2021 and transformed cold-start reliability overnight. Don't buy one expecting a sports tourer or a long-haul machine. Buy one because you want to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and wave at strangers. On those terms, it absolutely delivers.
