Honda Africa Twin Crf1000l
The Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L was introduced in 2016 as a spiritual successor to the legendary XRV750 Africa Twin, which had dominated the Paris-Dakar Rally in the late 1980s. The CRF1000L brought modern adventure touring technology including an optional Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), a first for a large adventure bike, along with Honda's IMU-based rider aids. It quickly became a benchmark in the adventure touring segment, praised for its off-road capability and long-distance comfort, before being succeeded by the larger CRF1100L in 2020.

What Buyers Should Know
Exceptional Long-Term Reliability
The parallel-twin engine is renowned for going well beyond 100,000 km with basic maintenance. Honda's build quality means major mechanical failures are rare, making it a strong long-term ownership choice.
Watch the DCT Gearbox
DCT-equipped models can develop jerky low-speed behavior if transmission fluid changes are neglected — inspect service records carefully. The DCT service interval is often overlooked by previous owners, and repairs can be costly.
Strong Resale Value
The Africa Twin holds its value exceptionally well compared to competitors, often retaining 70-80% of value after two years. DCT variants command a noticeable premium on the used market over manual versions.
