Bmw R Ninet Racer

The Bmw R Ninet Racer has a top speed of 200 km/h (estimated; BMW does not officially publish a top speed figure), produces 110 hp and weighs 222 kg. Motoryk rates it 7.8/10.

🔧

Proven Boxer Engine

The air/oil-cooled 1170cc boxer twin is one of BMW's most battle-tested powerplants, known for easily surpassing 100,000 miles with proper maintenance. Valve clearance checks every 6,000 miles are critical and often overlooked by previous owners.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The R nineT Racer holds its value exceptionally well due to limited production numbers and high collector demand. Used examples often sell for 85-90% of original MSRP even with moderate mileage.

⚠️

Watch the Throttle Bodies

Some owners report rough idle and surging caused by throttle body synchronization falling out of spec — a known quirk on early models. Always request service records confirming this has been addressed before buying.

"A spectacular weekend weapon that demands commitment and punishes compromise."

$8,500-$13,500 used

The R NineT Racer is one of those bikes that looks absolutely stunning in photos and somehow looks even better in person. That half-fairing, the clip-ons mounted directly to the top yoke, the blacked-out boxer twin — BMW nailed the aesthetic here. And the 1170cc air-cooled engine genuinely delivers. It's torquey, characterful, and sounds brilliant. You'll love it on twisty B-roads where the riding position actually makes sense. Here's the honest part though: that riding position is brutal for anything over 45 minutes. Wrists, neck, lower back — it all stacks up fast. On a used example, check the shaft drive splines for wear, inspect the frame for any stress cracks around the headstock, and verify the service history religiously. BMW servicing is expensive and previous owners often cut corners. Airheads run hot in traffic too, so urban commuting gets uncomfortable quickly. Buy one because you want a weekend machine that turns heads and genuinely excites. Don't buy one expecting practicality — it has none, and it doesn't care.
