Used Buyer Review

The SEF 300 Racing is a proper weapon if you know what you're getting into. Sherco's 300cc two-stroke delivers savage, usable power that'll embarrass bigger four-strokes on tight enduro sections, and the chassis feels genuinely planted when you're pushing hard through rough terrain. French engineering means the suspension setup is properly sorted from the factory — don't let the brand obscurity fool you. Used examples need careful inspection though. Check the power valve mechanism religiously — neglected ones seize and it's a nasty repair. Coolant systems on older models develop weeping joints around the water pump housing. Insist on full service history and verify the top end has been refreshed within the last 40 hours. Parts availability has improved dramatically but it's still not KTM-simple if something exotic fails. If the previous owner raced it hard and skipped maintenance, walk away without hesitation. Find a well-documented example and you've got a genuinely underrated enduro machine that punches well above its price point.

Pros

+Savage, controllable two-stroke power
+Excellent factory suspension setup
+Lighter than comparable four-strokes
+Strong value versus KTM/Husqvarna
+Chassis confidence on rough terrain

Cons

-Power valve neglect is costly
-Parts sourcing still tricky
-Water pump housing weeps
-Steep learning curve maintaining
