The 689cc parallel-twin punches well for street riding — torquey, predictable, never intimidating — and the chassis is genuinely sublime. Yamaha nailed the ergonomics here; it's aggressive without destroying your wrists on a 90-minute commute. Used examples have been solid mechanically, but check for lowside damage religiously. Track day heroes love dropping these things. The big gripe is electronics — you're getting basic traction control and that's your lot.
