The XSR125 is genuinely one of the better small bikes Yamaha has produced in years. The retro styling isn't just cosmetic fluff — the bike actually rides with a confidence that punches above its 125cc displacement. The VVA variable valve system gives you a surprisingly usable spread of power, and the handling is sharp enough to make urban riding genuinely enjoyable rather than a chore. Build quality is solid, and these bikes tend to age well if they've been maintained properly. When buying used, check the throttle body for issues and inspect the brake pads — younger riders often neglect both. Mileage matters less than condition here; a pampered 8,000-mile example beats a tatty 2,000-mile one every time. Avoid anything that's been dropped hard, as the fairings are expensive to replace. Service history is non-negotiable on these fuel-injected units. Realistic about its limitations — this is a learner-legal 125, not a middleweight — and it's genuinely excellent. Highway speeds will be a stretch, but for everything else, it delivers.
