Triumph Thruxton 900

The Triumph Thruxton 900 has a top speed of 185 km/h, produces 69 hp and weighs 215 kg. Motoryk rates it 7.5/10.

Was Käufer wissen sollten

🔧

Watch the Carbs

The Thruxton 900 uses dual Amal-style carburetors that can develop flat spots and require frequent synchronization. Budget for a carb rebuild or conversion to pods if buying a neglected example.

💰

Strong Resale Value

The Thruxton 900 holds its value exceptionally well due to its classic café racer styling and cult following. Low-mileage examples often sell close to their original purchase price even a decade later.

⚙️

Bulletproof Parallel Twin

The 865cc air-cooled parallel twin engine is widely regarded as one of Triumph's most durable modern motors, commonly running past 50,000 miles with basic maintenance. Regular valve checks every 6,000 miles are key to longevity.

"A genuinely rewarding retro twin if you buy carefully."

$4,500-$7,500 used

The Thruxton 900 is one of those bikes that rewards patience. Yes, the parallel twin vibrates through the pegs at motorway speeds, and yes, the stock seat will punish you after 90 minutes. But get it on a winding B-road and everything makes sense. The torque delivery is meaty and honest, the handling surprisingly sharp for something wearing café racer clothing, and the sound from those twin exhausts is genuinely addictive. Buying used, you need to check a few things religiously. Cam chain tensioners are the known weak point — listen for rattling on cold starts. Carbureted models (pre-2008) need regular syncing or they'll idle rough and run lean. Look for any signs of a low-speed drop, because these fairings and exhausts aren't cheap to replace. Service history matters more than mileage here. Triumph built these with decent quality, but neglected examples get expensive fast. Find a well-loved one and you've got a genuinely characterful machine that still turns heads without demanding constant attention.
