Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500

The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 has a top speed of Approximately 130 km/h (estimated; note: comfortable cruising is around 100-110 km/h), produces 27.2 hp and weighs 215 kg. Motoryk rates it 7/10.

🔧

Watch the Electrics

The Thunderbird 500 is known for electrical gremlins, including faulty switches and charging system issues. Always inspect wiring harness condition and test all electronics before buying used.

Strong Resale Value

Royal Enfield bikes hold their value remarkably well in India and emerging markets, often retaining 60-70% of value after 3 years. The Thunderbird 500's cruiser styling keeps demand steady among used buyers.

⚙️

Bulletproof Single Engine

The 499cc single-cylinder AVL engine is simple, long-lasting, and easy to maintain with widely available parts even in rural areas. It thrives on regular oil changes and can comfortably handle long highway touring.

6.8/10

$2,500-$4,500 used

The Thunderbird 500 is one of those bikes that either clicks with you immediately or doesn't. It's a proper cruiser built around that thumping 499cc single, and honestly, that motor is the whole personality of the machine. The low-end torque is genuinely satisfying for relaxed highway miles, and the upright-ish riding position works well for longer runs. Don't expect Bonneville performance — this isn't that bike. Used examples need careful inspection. The earlier units (2013-2016) had notorious electrical gremlins, carb issues, and questionable paint quality. Post-2017 fuel-injected models sorted most of that out and are significantly more reliable day-to-day. Always check for oil leaks around the primary chaincase and inspect the switchgear — cheap plastics crack easily. Service history matters more than mileage on these. For the price, you're buying a genuine mechanical experience that modern bikes have largely abandoned. It vibrates, it thumps, it demands engagement. Some riders love that honesty. Others find it exhausting after an hour.
