The Vulcan 900 Classic is Kawasaki doing what Kawasaki does well — building something reliable and sensible when nobody's really watching. It's not trying to be a Harley, but it's wearing the costume convincingly enough. The 903cc V-twin pulls smoothly from low revs, the riding position suits most bodies without argument, and mechanically these things are genuinely tough. Used examples rarely show serious problems if they've had basic maintenance. Where it falls short is character. Ride one back-to-back with a Bonneville or even a Shadow and you'll notice the Vulcan 900 feels a bit anonymous — competent but quiet. The belt drive is low maintenance but limits aftermarket flexibility, and the fuel tank range is disappointing for touring ambitions. Check fork seals, battery condition, and whether the previous owner ever actually changed the air filter. Most problems on used examples trace back to neglect rather than design flaws.
