Triumph Explorer 1200 Xca Review
"The best used adventure tourer money can buy, period."
Used Buyer Review
The Explorer 1200 XCA is genuinely one of the best adventure tourers you can buy used, but go in with eyes open. The 1215cc triple is magnificent — smooth, torquey, and sounds better than anything BMW or KTM offers at this price point. The XCA spec gets you semi-active suspension, heated grips, heated seat, and a centre stand, which matters enormously on a bike you'll actually live with. Check the shaft drive carefully on pre-2019 bikes and verify the TFT dash hasn't developed the notorious brightness fault. High mileage examples scare some buyers off, but these engines genuinely last. The real horror stories involve neglected chain tensioners on earlier models and corroded electrical connectors — both fixable, neither acceptable at asking prices above $10k. Look for full dealer service history and confirm the recall work around the throttle bodies was completed. Budget $500 for tyres immediately; most sellers run them to the canvas. For the money, nothing touches it on motorways or gravel. It's heavy at 259kg wet, which catches riders out in slow traffic, but experienced hands won't care.
