Used Buyer Review

The KTM 450 SX-F is a weapon, full stop. It's the bike that professional factory riders actually race, which tells you everything about its capability โ€” and also everything about its demands. Used examples are everywhere because weekend warriors buy them thinking they'll ride like Cooper Webb, then reality hits hard around lap three. That's actually good news for savvy buyers, because you can find relatively low-hour bikes from guys who barely cracked the throttle open. Here's the honest truth: maintenance intervals are brutal and non-negotiable. We're talking valve checks every 15 hours, piston every 40. Ignore that and you're rebuilding a top end on your dime. Always ask for service records and walk away if they can't produce them. The WP suspension is genuinely world-class when properly set up for your weight, but it's stiff out of the box for lighter riders. Budget $200-400 for a proper suspension tune. Buy right and you'll have the most exciting 450 motocrosser ever built.

Pros

+Best-in-class power delivery
+Exceptional factory-grade suspension
+Lightweight chromoly frame
+Sharp, responsive handling
+Strong resale value retained

Cons

-Brutal mandatory maintenance schedule
-Unforgiving for intermediate riders
-Expensive genuine KTM parts
-Low-hour examples are rare

You skip service intervals or ride casually
