The Sport Chief is Indian's attempt at a blacked-out muscle cruiser, and honestly, it mostly works. That 116ci Thunderstroke motor thumps with genuine authority — there's enough torque to embarrass sportbikes off the line, and the sound through those pipes is properly menacing without being obnoxious. The suspension setup is firmer than a standard Chief, which helps considerably through corners, though don't kid yourself into thinking this is a sport bike in any meaningful sense. It's a heavy machine that rewards smooth inputs, not aggression. Used examples tend to hover around 3,000-8,000 miles since owners often buy these as weekend toys. Check the front fork seals religiously — they can weep on early units — and inspect the final belt for cracking. Electronics are generally solid, but verify the touchscreen still responds properly in cold conditions. Dealer servicing history is a green flag worth paying extra for. The seat gets punishing past 90 minutes, and wind protection is essentially nonexistent. Buy this for Saturday morning blasts, not cross-country touring.
