Used Buyer Review

The Roadmaster is Indian's serious answer to the touring crown, and used examples are genuinely compelling value right now. You're getting heated everything, a proper infotainment system, and that thunderstroke 116 punching out torque that'll embarrass bikes costing twice as much. Check the front forks on pre-2020 models — they can weep seal fluid quietly and previous owners sometimes ignore it. Also prod every piece of chrome you can find; cheaper storage solutions let moisture in and rust appears faster than you'd expect on a supposedly premium machine. Electronics are generally solid but Ride Command units on 2017-2018 bikes can glitch, freeze, or lose pairing intermittently — annoying rather than dangerous, but factor a dealer reset into your budget. The fairing lowers crack if someone's dropped it at low speed, which happens more than sellers admit. Always inspect mounting points carefully. Mechanically these engines are bulletproof past 50,000 miles if serviced properly, so don't fear high mileage — fear poor service history.

Pros

+Thunderstroke torque genuinely impressive
+Heated seats and grips standard
+Excellent long-haul wind protection
+Strong dealer and parts network
+Holds value surprisingly well

Cons

-Fork seals on early models
-Chrome rusts faster than expected
-Heavy at low-speed maneuvers
-Ride Command glitches pre-2019
