Used Buyer Review
The Softail Deluxe is Harley's purest nostalgia trip โ a rolling 1950s fantasy with whitewall tires, chrome everywhere, and a riding position that practically forces you to slow down and enjoy yourself. On the used market, the Milwaukee-Eight-equipped 2018-and-newer bikes are the ones to hunt. The older Twin Cam versions aren't bad, but the M8 107 transformed this platform from competent to genuinely enjoyable. Torque delivery is smooth, heat management is dramatically better, and reliability ticked up noticeably. Be honest with yourself about what this motorcycle is. It's not a canyon carver โ ground clearance is modest, and that wide front fender will haunt you mid-corner. It's a boulevard cruiser that rewards relaxed riding. Check service records carefully; these attract newer riders who sometimes skip maintenance. Inspect the chrome for pitting and the engine for leaks around the primary cover. Pre-2018 examples often need cam chain tensioners โ budget accordingly. Find a clean 2018-2020 with low miles and you've got a genuinely rewarding machine.
