Harley-davidson Softail Custom Review
"A beautiful, trustworthy cruiser if you buy smart and inspect thoroughly."

Used Buyer Review
The Softail Custom is one of Harley's most honest bikes โ it looks the part without trying too hard. The hardtail-mimicking rear suspension setup actually works better than it has any right to, soaking up pavement cracks while keeping that clean profile intact. Twin Cam 96 or 103 engines are bulletproof if maintained, and most owners treated these things like furniture, so finding a clean one isn't hard. That said, low seat height and forward controls make highway stints genuinely tiring for taller riders. Check the primary chain, inspect for leaks around the cam chest area on pre-2011 bikes, and wiggle every chrome piece because replacements aren't cheap. These things rust in places you won't notice until you're already writing the check. Budget extra for a proper service right after purchase. Previous owners skipped intervals constantly. Get the VIN checked, verify it's never been dropped โ look at footpeg brackets and engine cases โ and you'll have a genuinely reliable, gorgeous cruiser that depreciates slowly and turns heads consistently.
