The 690 Enduro R is genuinely one of the most capable single-cylinder adventure machines ever built, but buying one used requires homework. That LC4 engine is a screamer when healthy — 67hp from a thumper feels almost violent — but neglected examples with sketchy service history will punish you financially. Check the valve clearances obsessively. KTM specifies tight intervals and previous owners routinely skip them. The chassis is where this bike earns its reputation. WP suspension that actually works, a proper subframe, and geometry that makes technical trails feel approachable. It's genuinely light too, which matters when you're hauling it out of a ditch. Fuel range is the elephant in the room though — 13 liters disappears fast and you will get stranded if you're not planning stops. Pre-2019 models had some known fuel injection gremlins and a clutch that drinks fluid. Post-2019 is significantly sorted. Budget for consumables regardless — these bikes work hard and parts aren't cheap. Worth every penny if maintained right.
