Ktm 690 Enduro R
The Ktm 690 Enduro R has a top speed of 175 km/h (estimated), produces 74 hp and weighs 158 kg. Motoryk rates it 8.2/10.
The KTM 690 Enduro R was introduced in 2008 as a street-legal single-cylinder adventure enduro, evolving from KTM's long line of LC4 engine-powered machines. It received a significant update in 2019 with a Euro 5-compliant engine featuring ride-by-wire, traction control, and cornering ABS, cementing its reputation as one of the most capable dual-sport machines available. It is notably one of the few high-displacement single-cylinder bikes designed to perform competitively both on road and serious off-road terrain.

What Buyers Should Know
Strong Resale Value
The KTM 690 Enduro R holds its value exceptionally well due to limited competition in the mid-size adventure/enduro segment. Expect to pay 75-85% of new price for a low-mileage used example.
Watch the Valve Intervals
The LC4 single-cylinder engine requires valve clearance checks every 15,000 km — skipping this is the most common cause of costly engine damage on used bikes. Always verify service history before buying.
Dual-Sport Versatility
The 690 Enduro R is fully street-legal yet competitive enough for serious off-road riding, featuring WP suspension, a slipper clutch, and cornering ABS — rare features in this class.

Initial launch; 654cc single-cylinder LC4 engine, tubular steel frame, basic enduro equipment.
"Raw, brilliant, exhausting — the original single-cylinder adventure weapon."
I put 18,000 km on a 2009 model across tarmac, fire roads, and some genuinely stupid off-road decisions, and the LC4 never let me down mechanically — though it did try to shake my fillings loose at motorway cruising speeds. That 654cc thumper pulls hard from 3,000 rpm with a torque hit that feels almost diesel-like on loose gravel, and the skinny chassis lets you throw it around like a proper dirt bike despite the 158 kg kerb weight. The seat is a medieval instrument of suffering after two hours, the mirrors vibrate into uselessness above 100 km/h, and the stock suspension is soft enough that fast tarmac corners require real commitment and trust. But nothing else in 2008 gave you this kind of genuine dual-sport capability at this price point — it was a revelation, flaws included.

Used Buyer Review
"The ultimate used dual-sport buy if history checks out."
$5,500-$9,500 usedThe 690 Enduro R is genuinely one of the most capable single-cylinder adventure machines ever built, but buying one used requires homework. That LC4 engine is a screamer when healthy — 67hp from a thumper feels almost violent — but neglected examples with sketchy service history will punish you financially. Check the valve clearances obsessively. KTM specifies tight intervals and previous owners routinely skip them. The chassis is where this bike earns its reputation. WP suspension that actually works, a proper subframe, and geometry that makes technical trails feel approachable. It's genuinely light too, which matters when you're hauling it out of a ditch. Fuel range is the elephant in the room though — 13 liters disappears fast and you will get stranded if you're not planning stops. Pre-2019 models had some known fuel injection gremlins and a clutch that drinks fluid. Post-2019 is significantly sorted. Budget for consumables regardless — these bikes work hard and parts aren't cheap. Worth every penny if maintained right.
