Wat kopers moeten weten

🔧

Bulletproof carbureted V-twin

The 1312cc 52-degree V-twin with shaft final drive is one of Honda's most durable cruiser engines, with many examples passing 100,000 miles on just oil, valve checks and shaft-drive fluid changes. Being carbureted (right through the final 2009 model year) it's simple to service, though bikes stored with old ethanol fuel often need a carb clean before they idle right.

⚠️

Check the charging system

Stator and regulator/rectifier failures are the best-known VTX weak spot, so test battery voltage at idle and at 3,000 rpm (should read roughly 13.5–14.5V) and look for cooked connectors. Also inspect fork seals and the rear shock, and ask whether the bike surges or hesitates at low rpm, which is usually a lean stock jetting or dirty pilot circuit issue rather than a serious fault.

💰

Final year holds value

2009 was the last year of the VTX 1300 before Honda replaced it with the VT1300 Stateline/Interstate line, and the model's reliability reputation keeps used prices firm compared with many other mid-2000s cruisers. Aftermarket and OEM parts remain plentiful and cheap, and low-mileage garage-kept examples with saddlebags and a windshield sell fastest.
