Harley-davidson Iron 1200

🔧

Air-Cooled Engine Quirks

The 1200cc Sportster engine runs hot in slow traffic or summer heat, which can cause discomfort for riders. Ensure the cooling fins are clean and unobstructed when buying used.

💰

Solid Resale Value

The Iron 1200 holds its value well due to strong Harley brand loyalty and its popularity as a beginner-to-intermediate bike. Low-mileage examples in good condition typically retain 70-80% of original value after two years.

⚠️

Watch the Primary Chain

The primary chain and tensioner are known wear items on the Sportster platform and should be inspected on any used Iron 1200. Neglected primary chain maintenance can lead to costly drivetrain damage.

Évaluation d'un acheteur d'occasion

7.5/10
Idéal pour
Style-conscious riders wanting authentic Harley character cheaply

"A characterful, honest cruiser that rewards riders who accept its limitations."

$6,500-$10,500 used

The Iron 1200 is Harley's answer to riders who want that raw, stripped-back bobber look without the Sportster 883's slightly underwhelming grunt. The 1202cc Evolution-derived air-cooled twin delivers genuine torque low in the rev range — pull away in second gear and it doesn't complain. Handling is surprisingly capable for a cruiser, though the fat 130-section front tire gives slightly wooden feedback through corners. Used examples from 2018-2020 are plentiful and typically well-maintained by owners who genuinely love these bikes. Watch for the usual Harley suspects on used examples: check primary chain tension, inspect for oil weeping around the pushrod tubes, and verify the battery health — they drain fast if the bike sits. Vibration through the pegs and bars is real above 70mph, so motorway commuters will want bar-end weights fitted. Seat comfort is authentically terrible for anything beyond 90 minutes, exactly as the cafe racer aesthetic demands.
