What Buyers Should Know
KTM-Derived Engine
The 799cc parallel-twin engine is co-developed with KTM, sharing DNA with the Duke 790 platform, giving it proven European reliability at a significantly lower price point.
Watch the Software
Early owners have reported occasional ECU glitches and TFT display freezes — ensure your dealer has applied the latest firmware updates before taking delivery.
Lower Resale Value
As a Chinese-brand motorcycle, the 800MT depreciates faster than European rivals like the Triumph Tiger 800 or BMW F850GS, so negotiate hard on new price to offset long-term resale loss.
Generations & Specs by Year
Initial launch with 799cc parallel-twin, 6-axis IMU, cornering ABS, traction control, touring-focused ergonomics.
"Shockingly capable Chinese tourer that almost earns your trust."
The 800MT punches well above its price bracket in the tech department — cornering ABS, a 6-axis IMU, and cruise control on a budget adventure tourer still feels slightly surreal. The parallel-twin pulls smoothly from about 3,500 rpm and has enough grunt for two-up highway work, though it runs out of breath past 160 km/h and never feels truly exciting. What erodes confidence isn't the chassis — actually decent through sweepers — but the patchy dealer network, software that occasionally throws phantom warnings, and plastics that creak like a haunted house after 8,000 km. If you're comfortable wrenching yourself or have a trusted independent nearby, the value proposition is genuinely hard to argue with; if you need reliable factory support, that calculation changes fast.
Pros
Cons
Revised suspension tuning, updated TFT display interface, refined throttle mapping, improved wind protection, new color schemes.
"China's most credible adventure tourer, with genuine asterisks."
After 8,000 km across mixed tarmac and light gravel, the 800MT earns real respect — the parallel-twin pulls cleanly from 3,500 rpm, and the revised throttle mapping finally killed the snatchy low-speed behavior that plagued Gen 1. Wind protection is legitimately good up to about 130 km/h, after which turbulence around the helmet gets annoying regardless of screen position. The suspension is plush for road touring but wallows noticeably when you push harder through sweepers loaded with luggage — it's tuned for comfort, not confidence. Build quality has improved but isn't European: my switchgear developed a rattle by 4,000 km and the TFT, while cleaner in Gen 2, still washes out badly in direct afternoon sun.

Used Buyer Review
"Unbeatable value adventure tourer if dealer support is nearby."
$6,500-$9,500 usedThe 800MT is one of those bikes that genuinely surprises you. CFMOTO's partnership with KTM shows — the 799cc parallel twin is smooth, pulls strong from low revs, and the WP suspension (yes, actual WP) is properly tuned for mixed-road work. Used examples from 2022 onward represent serious value when you stack them against equivalent Yamahas or Kawasakis. Don't let the badge snobbery put you off. That said, go in with eyes open. Early units had some TFT display glitches and a few owners reported inconsistent dealer support depending on location. Parts availability is improving but still trails the Japanese brands. Check the service history carefully — skipped oil changes hurt this engine disproportionately. Give the throttle-by-wire a thorough test across all riding modes before handing over cash. Buy one with under 15,000 miles, full stamps in the book, and you're getting a genuinely capable adventure-tourer at a price that makes the competition look embarrassed. The value proposition here is real.
