🏁

Last of the air-cooled GS

The 2010-2012 bikes use the DOHC 'camhead' 110 hp boxer — the final and most refined air/oil-cooled GS before the 2013 liquid-cooled 'wethead'. They also dropped the troublesome servo-assisted ABS of earlier hexheads, making the brake system far cheaper and simpler to maintain.

🔧

Check the rear final drive

Inspect the final drive for weeping oil at the pinion seal and any play or whine from the crown bearing, and confirm the driveshaft/rear wheel splines have been greased — a failed final drive is the single most expensive repair on this model. Also verify the alternator belt and valve clearances have been done on schedule.

💰

Strong, stable resale

Air-cooled GSs hold value unusually well because overlanders and purists prize their simpler, roadside-fixable engines, so expect to pay a premium over rival adventure bikes of the same year. Full service history, ESA/ASC options and the Adventure variant add the most to asking prices.
